Too many prisoners
Crowding in Nevada's prisons has become so serious that the federal government might take over the prison system unless the problem is resolved soon.
Atkinson Gates scrutiny grows
On three occasions in 2005 and 2006, then-Clark County Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson Gates voted to award a total of $408,081 to a controversial HIV prevention organization.
Editorial: Quit jailing journalists
Wolf, 24, is a blogger, freelance journalist and self-described activist and anarchist. Wolf is the modern-day version of the journalists of the founding fathers' day, much like the pamphleteers of the Revolutionary War.
Letter: U.S. government no longer run by citizens
In reading Mr. James statements, it appears that he objects to the possibility that his tax dollars would be used to pay the medical expenses for a person maimed or injured because of not wearing a seat belt. If taxpayer dollars should be used for this purpose, it presupposes that the injured individual failed to provide monetary protection for himself in case he committed an irresponsible act.

FLASHPOINT for Apr 07, 2007
Did anyone notice that the proposal sent by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman to the NBA wasn't really, well, a proposal? Editorial: It's all in the genes
In a recent Bloomberg News story, scientists say that in pinpointing the genetic codes that appear to reveal how smoking addictions work, they also discovered 62 more genes with functions that give clues as to how other types of addictions work.
Letter: Bush's follies not the Democrats' fault
This is because of careless and inadequate stewardship of our resources. Is there any fiscally responsible person in the country who does not know that to stay solvent an entity has to pay its bills and live within its means?
LOOKING IN ON: CARSON CITY
CARSON CITY - As part of a new highway safety plan, Gov. Jim Gibbons favors a law that would allow police to stop motorists who don't buckle up.
Q+A: Sebastien Bourdais
What: Vegas Grand Prix
Two bosses, two paychecks, possible conflict
Former Clark County Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson Gates, who in her 2004 reelection directed more than $356,000 in campaign funds to her 21-year-old son, future daughter-in-law and their company, also boosted her county assistant's salary with more than $46,000 in political donations in that race.
Letter: Schools should have fewer guns, not more
Rather than introducing guns into the schools, we should be eliminating them. The use of metal detectors, as in other school districts, should be considered. Schools with multiple entrances could have fencing around the campus to make this practical.
