Letter: Bush should find ways to end Iraq war
Friday, April 6, 2007 | 7:15 a.m.
Let me get this straight, because I'm confused. This is what President Bush said in response to the debate over the Iraq war funding: "Congress' failure to fund our troops on the front lines will mean that some of our military families could wait longer for their loved ones to return from the front lines."
First off, passing legislation that funds the war while requiring a set timetable for withdrawal is still funding the war. I'm curious as to how he could categorize this as a failure. Maybe he should begin looking within for failures, rather than always elsewhere.
Secondly, those strings attached guarantee that nearly all our military families won't have to wait longer for their loved ones to return from the front lines. They will also guarantee that fewer families have to prepare for a funeral or rehabilitation as would be the case in an even more prolonged war.
Lastly, if this president truly supported the troops who are fighting his war, he would not use them as pawns in a political game to achieve the open-ended funding he desires. He would be finding ways to end this war and bring our troops home, not just telling us to have patience and stay the course. To even fathom that he has their best interest at heart, when coupled with the actions he and his administration have taken, is preposterous.
Simply put, President Bush needs to be impeached.
