Letter: Easy fix to noise from air traffic

Thursday, April 5, 2007 | 7:12 a.m.

I have read your numerous letters from locals not under the new flight path. They all say that they have no problem with the noise and that those in the western part of the valley should just lump it.

I would ask: What if you bought a very expensive new car with your life savings and then found out you can neither shut off nor turn down the volume on your radio, which is set to a station whose format you don't like. Would you just lump it?

I bought a home in the upper southwest, not Summerlin, and paid a lot to be in a quiet area. I now have noise so loud I cannot sleep, use my back yard or open my windows for fresh air. Not what I paid for.

We are not against growth in the valley; we love it here, but there is a very easy fix to this problem - send the planes directly west to the mountains and let them turn right or left from there. This would relieve the noise from the north and south.

Neighborhoods should not be fighting with one another, because the real culprits are the Clark County commissioners who approved this mess. There is no reason for this change except to placate the developers in the southwest.

Once off the runway, planes have infinite airspace west and south. This new path goes over approximately 45 miles of developed Las Vegas airspace instead of five miles south or seven to 10 miles west. Use your common sense , people , and understand our anger.
