Letter: Kucinich’s campaign being unfairly ignored
Wednesday, April 4, 2007 | 7:19 a.m.
In your March 30 article headlined, "Gears turn, chew up Obama," you stated that no candidates except John Edwards presented health care plans at the recent presidential candidate health care forum.
Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, offered a very detailed plan for a totally different direction for health care in America. Kucinich's plan is a single-payer, not-for-profit health care system that removes insurance companies from the picture in health care.
Currently, health insurance overhead costs equate to 31 percent of the overall health care expenditures in America. By removing the insurance companies from the health care system, medical experts - rather than insurance adjusters - will be making the health care recommendations for Americans.
Huge savings in administrative costs will be gained, which will lower the cost of health care and allow coverage of all.
The savings from eliminating the insurance companies will also benefit the U.S. economy by bringing down the high cost of health insurance and by providing health care. This benefits both the individuals needing health care and employers currently trying to provide health insurance (rather than health care) for employees, freeing up funds to create additional jobs or pay better wages to their employees.
Dennis Kucinich offers a real plan that benefits all. Unfortunately, it appears that reporters want to ignore his campaign. I hope to see fair coverage of all candidates, including Kucinich, so the American people have the information to make their vote really count.
