Letter: City, county planners always catching up

I have lived in the eastern part of the Las Vegas Valley for more than 13 years. Since arriving I have put up with inbound and outbound air traffic noise, some days more so than others. Some days it's like I moved next to one of the runways of Nellis Air Force Base or McCarran International Airport.

The noise has substantially increased (more flights) over the past few years. I chalk it up to Las Vegas Valley and Strip growth. In addition, we also get the tour helicopter inbound noise - it sounds like a sound segment from "MASH" some days.

The bottom line is we have tremendous progress in the valley (like there is no tomorrow). With that said, who is it that allows the valley's shortcomings to become such a problem? The city and the county planners, that's who. Where in the valley do we not have some kind of (outgrown) problem? Air noise, highway traffic, water, power, schools, police and other infrastructure, to name a few.

Our nearsighted city and county planners are allowing the over building and are forever playing catch-up.

For those of you in the western part of the Las Vegas Valley who cannot live without peace and tranquillity, move to the boonies and hope progress does not follow.

We in the eastern part of the valley put up with inbound and outbound air traffic noise and sewer plant smell. (It has increased also. I suspect much comes from the ever-expanding, nonperfumed Elite West Valley.)
