Letter: We need to unite to defeat our enemies
Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 | 7:31 a.m.
The popular cry from the left these days seems to be that President Bush has caused an increase in terrorism. To the contrary, if anyone is guilty of that, it is the Democratic Party, which has practically become a public relations firm for Islamic fascism.
Democrats have gone from enthusiastic support for the war in Iraq to saying it's a disaster, the wrong war at the wrong time, we're only there for oil and we're torturing prisoners. They are also calling our leader a liar, a loser, a dictator and a lawbreaker.
Worst of all, they give the impression that our military is totally helpless when confronted by a few thousand ruthless thugs. They hate the Patriot Act, they don't want us listening to enemy communications or monitoring their financial transactions, and act like their No. 1 concern is the "rights" of detainees at Gitmo. Do you think the terrorists don't hear that?
Apparently, they've learned nothing from Vietnam, where thinking people came to the conclusion that if you show weakness or division, the enemy is only encouraged.
Imagine what Iraq would be like today if every American, regardless of party affiliation, were behind this effort 100 percent. The opposition would scatter as surely as Saddam Hussein's forces did at the beginning of the war.
Benjamin Franklin once said that we must all hang together, or we shall surely hang separately. Far too many Democrats are lending a hand in the construction of the gallows.
