Letter: Tax hike hidden in Medicare payments
Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 | 7:21 a.m.
In a Sept. 20 campaign speech, President Bush complained about what he says Democrats will do if they win the Congress in the upcoming elections.
First, who in this country could give any credence to what this president has to say? This is the same guy who raised the cost of Medicare B for seniors who earn $80,000 a year. Who ever heard of two or three different prices for the same health care insurance?
That looks like a tax increase to me. And for only the people over 65 years.
Add this to the doughnut hole in the law that forces seniors to pay 100 percent of their prescription costs once they reach a small level of reimbursement of the cost of their medication. Everyone should know, but doesn't, that he also insisted on the law forbidding Medicare from negotiating with drug companies for lower prices.
This is costing American taxpayers billions. If you don't believe it, check this out. Canada negotiates with the same American drug companies. Americans can buy these same drugs from Canadian pharmacies for much less than they can buy them here in the U.S.
