Letter: List of fallen troops sad but appreciated
Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006 | 7:29 a.m.
I wish to thank the Las Vegas Sun for paying tribute to our war casualties by publishing the names, ages and hometowns of these brave young men and women who have sacrificed their lives for their country. (Our other newspaper evidently doesn't think this is newsworthy.)
I am vehemently opposed to this war, how we were hoodwinked into it, how it is being handled, what it has cost us in the lives lost and those injured, and the lack of support for those who have been ordered to serve in it and whose lives are changed forever as a result of that service, not to mention the cost in dollars and our diminished standing in the eyes of the rest of the world.
I firmly believe in bringing our troops home now before we lose any more of these brave fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers and sisters. This would be the best support we could give them. We need them here at home protecting our borders, not in some foreign country. Then, and maybe only then, will it no longer be necessary for any newspaper to have to publish a daily and ever-growing list of those who are giving their all for us.
Again, thank you at the Sun for honoring them and for trying to make your readers aware of the horrible toll this war is taking on the everyday lives of our people and their families.
