Letter: Clinton deserving of opponents’ respect
Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006 | 7:29 a.m.
Sen. Hillary Clinton was an excellent student, graduated with honors, achieved a law degree, married Bill Clinton, and was an active first lady in Little Rock and then in Washington. She is now a hardworking senator representing New York.
Now I can't remember Democrats making personal attacks against Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush or Laura Bush, but some Republicans not only think they can but also must describe Sen. Clinton in the most foul and demeaning way, such as calling her a witch and even worse.
I wonder what kind of upbringing they had that allows them to talk about a lady this way. There's nothing wrong in disagreeing with her politics, but reaching into the sewer to smear her is just not right. Americans should insist that politicians of both parties be treated with the respect they deserve, and not support those who resort to mudslinging.
