Letter: Fewer restrictions are part of Vegas’ appeal

In the Sept. 10 issue of the Las Vegas Sun, reporter Marshall Allen wrote a piece headlined, "Smoking initiatives cloud ballot; Health, biz in opposition." There is a huge movement to ban smoking in public places, but why should Las Vegas follow this trend?

Little government involvement is part of what makes Vegas so appealing. I am not a smoker myself, but I enjoy the idea of being able to do whatever, whenever.

Smoking already is often limited to specific zones in indoor areas. There are signs all over Las Vegas stating that you cannot smoke in numerous areas. Restaurants have specific zones for smokers; so why do we need more rules? I rarely come across a whiff of smoke unless I am inside a casino, but even then the air is well-ventilated.

Las Vegas should be an exception to the anti-smoking movement. What's next after no smoking in public, no gambling?
