Letter: Listening to W. speak is a lot like torture

Friday, Sept. 22, 2006 | 7:31 a.m.

Last Friday, while being subjected to the president's press conference on torture, it occurred to me that it would be cruel and unusual punishment to continuously subject someone to Mr. Bush's speeches.

I know in my own case, the only way I can tolerate one of his speeches is to make a drinking game of it. For instance, taking a drink whenever he says "nucular" for nuclear, "terra" for terror, or "Mericans" for Americans.

However, if you were to take the fun out of it and put the president on a continuous loop, it might fall under the label of torture. Although it might be an effective way to obtain information from a suspected terrorist, I think we had better first determine if it will pass constitutional scrutiny.
