FLASHPOINT for Sep 06, 2006

Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006 | 8:03 a.m.

Even if Democrats continue to be overly optimistic about Congressional District 2, the country's pundits are looking even more seriously at CD3. That's Jon Porter's seat. And national sage Stu Rothenberg and The New York Times now have the seat in the "lean Republican" category. That means they think Tessa Hafen, the erstwhile Harry Reid spokeswoman, has a chance in a year where Republicans are forecast to lose the House. So Porter has a real race on his hands, and calling Hafen "a joke" or falsely asserting she hasn't had a job or paid a mortgage in the district is overreaching. Hafen may be young and some may think she's not ready for prime time. But we are about to find out because many eyes are on CD3.
