Letter: Bring soldiers home - healthy and whole
Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 | 7:22 a.m.
I see some bumper stickers that say "Bring them home," referring, of course, to our kids in Iraq. But these patriotic Americans should add the word "alive."
Our "my way or the highway" commander in chief is staying the course and troops are coming home. Since March 20, 2003, President Bush has returned more than 2,600 GIs in body bags and/or flag-draped coffins, but we can't see them as they arrive at Andrews or Dover Air Force Bases. Since that March day, Bush has also brought home 19,000 wounded GIs, with more than 8,000 of them totally disabled and maimed who will be assigned to wheelchairs for life.
But in all of this, Bush will have his two military-aged daughters safely with him like his mommy and daddy had him safe from Vietnam. So, make no mistake, Bush is bringing them home, some dead, some maimed for life and some will never recover.
