Letter: Associations need to remember neighbors

Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 | 7:21 a.m.

As a resident of a community regulated by a homeowners association, further regulation of homeowners associations and their boards, such as being considered by our state, will not work much better than the weak law presently in place, as it fails to provide any program for securing the correct individuals for the board positions.

Pretesting of the board members, consistent with their election (employment) application, will likely eliminate the self-centered, power-hungry, mistrusting and perfectionist board members who snoop in your back yard. Many successful corporations use pre-employment testing to weed out the unqualified.

Many boards long ago forgot about the "neighborhoods" within the association.
