Letter: People need to care for themselves
Monday, Sept. 4, 2006 | 7:44 a.m.
In response to the two letters Saturday putting all the blame on Bush, one of the letter writers, Joe Creed, asked about the buses.
Yes, why didn't the mayor of New Orleans or the governor of Louisiana make sure the buses got people out?
Why all the hatred to someone in Washington taking care of the nation when New Orleans had local officials who should have did something about it? The incompetent mayor was re-elected; so the people there get what they deserve.
Also, Randy Bolton challenged Lee Gliddon Jr., who in a previous letter defended President Bush's handling of Katrina, to go there for a week. Why? We are not dumb enough to live in a city under the water level.
To spend a dime of public money to rebuild that place is the national disgrace. If it is worth rebuilding, private companies will do it. If something happens here, I have my water, canned food and a gun to get me by. I will not be asking the government for a handout because I can take care of my family and myself.
