Letter: Planned withdrawal can salvage war effort

We won World War II because it was a war that had to be won for all the right reasons, and we made the least amount of mistakes. But the Iraq war that our cowboy president got us into was a huge mistake right from the beginning.

What sums it up for me is that poor planning, even before we invaded, at every level is what is doing us in. We are trying to help the Iraqis form a government. Not much seems to be happening.

Why not set a timetable for getting our troops out and start pulling them out?

Show the Iraqis that we do not want to occupy their country indefinitely, and just maybe that will light a fire under them to get their government going effectively.
