Editorial: End of an era
According to a story by the Associated Press, an internal U.S. Postal Service memo outlines plans to eliminate the service's 23,000 stamp vending machines by 2010. The machines, many of which are nearly 20 years old, are breaking down with increasing frequency. Replacement parts are hard to find, making repairs too costly.
Ron Kantowski puts Jim Gibbons' bold claim to the test and makes like Rick Neuheisel, crawling from McCormick & Schmick's to the Marriott
Perhaps most will be answered by attorneys at some point. Or by voters on Election Day. But as a sports writer, I don't have time for all that. My chad is hanging and I need to know now.

Letter: Don't let Bush subjugate us any longer
The two-party system has caused the real problems and important issues to be overlooked, while the parties play their blame games. The far right has gone too far this time, and our president has lost all sense of reality and our moral high ground. He's always preaching to us like we were all a bunch of nincompoops, when in fact the only language he knows is rhetoric, and he has to have that written for him. We never get the real truth; we get a constant dose of spin. It's disgraceful.
Letter: Weapons, humans a deadly combination
I have, after careful study, arrived at a theory that it is the combination of a weapon with a human that really causes death and injury. If we could only avoid that combination!

Light up a marijuana "joint" and the very first inhalation gets you high. Not only does the person who lights up the joint get high, but so does anyone in the immediate area. That is called, by anyone who knows facts, a "contact high." Without giving any consent whatsoever, a person within mere feet of a marijuana smoker gets intoxicated.

Democratic Party Chairman Tom Collins, who moonlights as a county commissioner, wrote a letter to TV stations this week raising legal questions about Brian Krolicki and Mark DeStefano jointly buying time. Treasurer Krolicki, running for lieutenant governor, and businessman DeStefano, running for treasurer, split the cost because they are handled by the same GOP consultant and it saves money. Naturally, this creativity upsets Democrats and so they will raise ...
