Letter: School District’s spin is no solution

Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 | 7:24 a.m.

Another letter right on the mark from Virgil Sestini, a retired Clark County School District biology teacher ("Flags are not what schools need," Oct. 10).

I've worked for 29 years in the School District and I believe our district administration continues to squander taxpayer money on "spin," when in fact, all the real, troubling, School District issues brought up by parents, teachers and concerned individuals fall on deaf ears. Student achievement and excellence continue to suffer as a result.

Based on its past track record, it appears that informing the School District administration of important school concerns and expecting a timely, meaningful solution is like being told by a phone recording that your call is very important after you've been on hold for 30 minutes.

Perhaps an outside survey of School District concerns by parents, teachers and other school personnel, with results to be published to Clark County taxpayers, might get their attention.

But I'm not sure you could get a Vegas sports book to give you odds on that.
