Letter: Bush plan only veils nation’s problems

As Nov. 7 approaches, the Bush administration continues to deflect failures and defers addressing real issues like Iraq, immigration, Social Security and Medicare reform. Its focus is on trying to convince taxpayers that the economy is really great.
Today the economy seems to be that way in Nevada. But whatever happens in the rest of the country doesn't just stay there - we are only on a time delay. Over the past year, job creation has fallen short of what's required to sustain new employment by 30,000 jobs per month.
The Bush tax cuts are said to be propelling the economy to new heights - well, maybe the stock market, but not much else. With a continuing real annual federal deficit in excess of $500 billion or more every year, individual workers accumulate yet another $3,500 in annual debt plus interest.
So where are the savings from the tax cuts? This mirage, like just about everything else proffered by this administration, is only a deferred payment plan. Someone's got to pay and soon.
