Letter: Bipartisan bickering accomplishes nothing
Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006 | 7:34 a.m.
Dolores Kelley's Sept. 29 letter, "Surely Democrats can't be worse than the GOP," had some truth to it - Congress left many important issues without acting on them. But please note that this Congress is made up of both Democrats and Republicans. And which side is holding up the passing of important matters? No matter which side it is, we need to wake them up and insist on bipartisan votes.
Enough of the Democrats versus Republicans, and vice versa.
Contrary to Ms. Kelley's assertion, the Bush administration is hardly taking credit for lower gas prices. Why would they? They would only be accused that they had raised the prices to begin with and are lowering them for political benefit. The oil and gas companies control the prices, not the president nor Congress.
Is the president also responsible for the economic downswing, which isn't good news right before an election?
The Democrats holler about Iraq, yet have we heard a plan? Sadly, wars take a long time to win and this one will take many more years, and no one is happy about that.
On a talk show yesterday it was mentioned that Harley-Davidson is planning a manufacturing facility in Iraq. If this is true, perhaps they know better than the general public does that perhaps there is real hope on the horizon to end this bloodshed.
Why don't we hear any constructive news from the media? The news all seems to be critical and we all must wonder why.
