Letter: War casualties are on president’s head

Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 | 7:17 a.m.

It is obvious to me that some people like letter writer Ken Lucas just don't get it.

The slogan "Support the Troops" was just code for supporting Bush in his illegal war against the Iraqi people.

The Democrats took over both houses of Congress because a majority of the people wanted us out of Iraq. The Bush war was opposed by several church organizations and even Pope John Paul II spoke against it. Bush simply ignored the pontiff's letter urging him not to invade the Iraqi people.

Some people simply don't want to understand that Bush lied us into this ill-conceived war. There were no weapons of mass destruction, no nuclear threat from Saddam and there was no connection whatsoever with al-Qaida and 9/11.

Mr. Lucas and others who think the war was justified seem not to hold Bush responsible for more than 2,860 dead GI's, 22,000 wounded GI's and, now confirmed, more than 150,000 dead Iraqis since Bush invaded them in March 2003. Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden are not responsible for these deaths.
