Letter: Nevadan should have gotten portrait job
Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 | 7:18 a.m.
Regarding the Las Vegas Sun's Nov. 22 story, "Putting Gov. Guinn on the throne, wink wink," I completely agree with artist Adam Baker. Kenny Guinn should have chosen a Nevada artist to paint his portrait.
It didn't have to be Baker, but by Guinn choosing an artist from Washington state he makes a mockery of Nevada artists and reinforces the misconception that people from elsewhere hold that Nevada is not as good as other states.
Citizens of Nevada have to fight the misconceptions about our beloved state every day. There is no reason why Guinn should reinforce the stereotypes that we are an uncultured, untalented lot.
