Letter: Troops needed more on the home front
Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006 | 6:57 a.m.
There still are not enough troops on the ground, not by a long shot. For years this dictum has been repeated over and over but nothing seems to change or ever get better.
Now a new regime is in place and we still hear the same old saw - wait six months or a year and things will change. In just the past six months or so there have been significant increases in major crime.
Family members, friends and acquaintances held at gunpoint, threatened with assault, burglarized and robbed. So just when will all this subside? When will it end?
This isn't Baghdad I'm talking about, it's Las Vegas! These people aren't Iraqis, they are my family members, my friends and my acquaintances. They all live in areas of the valley considered to be safe, yet these crimes continue to increase in both their scope and intensity.
Las Vegas is becoming unsafe by any measure. Bring the troops home from Iraq. We need them here more than we need them in Baghdad.
