Letter: Same old story from Bush administration
Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006 | 6:57 a.m.
It is reasonably clear after reading Tom Teepen's column (The Sun, Nov. 21) that the president and the Republican leadership haven't yet understood the message that voters were trying to send.
It is hardly in the spirit of bipartisanship that the Republicans are willing to let slide five major spending bills so that the Democrats will have to take the heat. This is par for this current Republican leadership.
The president, as usual, talks one thing and does another. How are we to understand his renomination of four people for judicial seats who were unable to survive the confirmation process in this outgoing Senate? And he is renominating John Bolton as U.N. ambassador, but he still probably won't get confirmed because of both Republican and Democratic opposition.
The four judicial nominees bring no qualifications to the posts for which they are nominated except their radical right ideology. The only possible justification is that the president wants to appease his base. His base was not able to help him in the election just past but he is so enamored with the radical religious right it seems that he just can't help himself.
