Letter: ‘Big Al and Mr. T’ were finest of men
Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006 | 7:12 a.m.
A lot of memories flooded back to me while reading reporter Ed Koch's story on Nov. 12 about Al Sachs and Herb Tobman, former owners of the now-closed Stardust hotel.
I began work at the Stardust on June 4, 1971. Mr. Sachs and Mr. Tobman were indeed in charge. I have never met, nor have I ever worked with, two finer men. And that is the way they were - you worked with them, not for them. They both cared for the employees, including those from the back of the house to the casino manager. They were, simply put, super to everyone.
They're both gone now, but the memories I have of "Big Al and Mr. T" will forever be in my heart. I still love them both very, very much.
I worked at the Stardust for 33 years. No one, but no one, comes close to those two men. They deserve to be praised and remembered not just for how well they treated the Stardust employees, but also for all of the good works that they did in the community.
