Letter: Iraq war is not winnable, so let’s leave
Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 | 7:15 a.m.
The Bush administration has repeatedly told the American public that if we don't fight the terrorists in Iraq we will be fighting them on our home soil. I would love to know why that would be the case.
The 9/11 attacks were not planned nor executed from Iraq. There has not been one terrorist attack or plot that has been planned or attempted from within Iraq.
The terrorist attacks, or discovered plots, against England, Spain, Germany and elsewhere never originated in Iraq.
So why are we constantly told that Iraq is the breeding ground for attacks against the U.S. and the rest of the world? Why are we constantly told that if we leave Iraq the U.S. will not be safe?
Believe me, the last thing on the minds of Iraqis would be planning terrorist attacks against the U.S. They are very busy with their own internal problems - civil war, rebuilding their country, establishing a workable government, etc.
Iraq is an unwinnable war. Why delay the inevitable withdrawal from Iraq at the cost of many more troops, greater expense and more worldwide contempt against the United States?
