Letter: America is a land of immigrants
Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 | 7:15 a.m.
As if life weren't hard enough, some people in Pahrump with nothing else on their minds had to stir up a hornet's nest and pass an ordinance on what language is spoken and where.
What are these people thinking? Perhaps they are directing their frustrations in the wrong direction and should take a good inner look at themselves and figure out what is really going on.
Each of us are immigrants, or sons and daughters of immigrants who did not walk off of the boat speaking English. This is a country designed to break away from arbitrary laws and regulations designed to keep us back.
If one feels comfortable speaking and conducting business with his or her expatriates in their native tongue, so be it. I for one do not feel threatened by other languages. Perhaps those who do have no real problems to confront today.
