Letter: Voters were not fooled by GOP’s trickery

Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 | 7:19 a.m.

I was wrong when I predicted that gasoline prices would rise the day after the election. Actually they didn't rise until two days later. I attribute that to shock on the part of the oil companies that couldn't believe that after pumping all that money into the Republican Party the moronic populace didn't buy the Republicans' song-and-dance act.

It's interesting to see now that all the conservative talk show hosts are currently spinning the results as a loss by the Republicans but a win by the conservatives. I guess the fact that the complete loss of the House and Senate didn't happen somehow adds up to a victory for them. Duh! I think that it's really not too hard to understand if you sweep away all the nonsense.

The Republicans lost because Dubya is a one-trick pony whose only talent seems to be fear-mongering. And let's not forget the terrible losses in Iraq and, last but not least, the blatant corruption that permeated the administration. The age-old adage that "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" has once again been demonstrated.

Again I found myself voting for what I perceived as the "lesser of two evils" and I think a lot of other people did too.
