Letter: Drug plan structured to contain costs

Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006 | 1:19 a.m.

The Las Vegas Sun's Thursday editorial, "Bad plan gets worse," points out the penalty of increased costs encountered when getting into the prescription-drug program late. Congress put this into to the plan in order to contain costs, otherwise people could wait to enter the program (or only stay in the program ) while they have large drug costs.

Likewise the doughnut hole was included again to limit program costs by setting a limit for drug coverage, while still allowing for the catastrophic situation of extremely high drug costs.

These restrictions are necessary to keep down the cost of this new entitlement so that our children will not have to pay as much for us. The program is far more generous than that what some had proposed, which was for drug coverage for the needy only.
