Letter: Finally, something turned out right
Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 | 6:54 a.m.
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld finally got something right. He resigned! One down, three to go. If only President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and presidential adviser Karl Rove would follow suit and acknowledge the pain, suffering and disgrace they have brought to our country through their pompous disregard for the brave sons and daughters who followed their orders into a war with no end in sight.
Of course, we all know this was not Rummy's reason for resigning. He had become an albatross around Bush's neck. But at least he is gone. But lest we forget, we still have two more years of Bush to contend with.
Americans finally woke up and voted for a change in the House and the Senate. But why did they wait until it took almost 3,000 lives of these courageous young men and women to let our government know we definitely needed to change this situation?
I sincerely hope this change in Congress will bring about a decision to immediately withdraw all our troops from Iraq and protect them from further harm. Those who do survive this physically will forever be changed by the horror of this war that our elected officials put them through for all the wrong reasons. Even our great-great-grandchildren will be paying for this emotionally as well as financially.
Perhaps we could impeach the three remaining culprits and start digging our way out of this hole we find ourselves in and not wait two more years. Who knows how many lives and limbs could be saved?
