John Katsilometes on some of the plans Boggs McDonald may entertain for future

Coffee, or even beer, might play a significant role in Lynette Boggs McDonald's future. Professionally speaking, we mean.

Sounding remarkably upbeat even in the face of a 28-point loss to Susan Brager in Tuesday's Clark County Commission F race, Boggs McDonald said Wednesday that she is keeping all of her options open once she vacates her seat on the board in January. "It's hard to say what will happen, you know?" Boggs McDonald said during a phone interview. "I have a couple of siblings in corporate America who might want to help their sis out."

Boggs McDonald's sister, Paula Boggs, is general counsel for a little chain of coffee houses called Starbucks. Her brother, N. Cornell Boggs III, is chief legal officer and group vice president of public affairs for a beer company out of Colorado called Coors.

Boggs McDonald said she wasn't sure if she would maintain any role with Keep Memory Alive, the foundation for the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute. She was named the organization's president in May 2005 and held that post (which pays a salary of $100,000 per year) until May of this year when she stepped down to run for re-election. Boggs McDonald said she will remain a "very active" board member of the Miss America Organization (she is a former Miss Oregon, 1989). She is also on the board of visitors of the U.S. Naval Academy and is on the board of directors of St. Rose Dominican Hospital and says she'll remain with both of those organizations.

"I love Southern Nevada. My children were both born here and it is home," Boggs McDonald said. "It's really early to say what's next, but I really do believe that great things are ahead for me. I'll just keep driving down the road."

From September through Election Day, Boggs McDonald was dogged by allegations that she received a favorable deal in a real estate transaction and that she didn't, in fact, reside in District F. She was also riled when her sealed divorce case was leaked to the media.

But in the aftermath of Tuesday's lopsided results, Boggs McDonald refused to look back. She spent election night sipping Dom Perignon (1998) with her parents and supporters while surveying the future. "Whatever I do, I have the education, drive and determination to succeed," she said. "As I often say, the wind in my face will dry my tears."

Longtime Golden Nugget Vice President of Entertainment Joe Leone abruptly resigned last week. He turned in his letter of resignation on Oct. 30 and left his post on Nov. 1. Leone was with the Golden Nugget for 12 years and was instrumental in the renovation and expansion of the Theatre Ballroom, but he is not in the plans of new owners Landry's Restaurants Inc. On Wednesday he said he hopes to stay in Las Vegas, and at the moment is helping Clint Holmes during Holmes' rehearsals for "Breathe" (Leone was part of the team that brought Holmes to the Golden Nugget nearly 10 years ago) ...

Last month when the Los Angeles Lakers played the Sacramento Kings in an exhibition game at the Thomas & Mack Center, Joe and Gavin Maloof (who own the Kings) took a shine to the women singing the national anthem - the Sirens of TI. The brothers asked if the Sirens would be able to sing the anthem prior to a game in Sacramento, and they did so prior to the Kings-Pistons game Wednesday night ...

Miss Senior America returns to the Imperial Palace this week; the finals are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday in the Sampan Room on the hotel's third floor. The IP also sent across a photo commemorating the famous shot of Liberace posed holding a guitar as Elvis sat at the piano (they also switched jackets for the photo). Tribute artists Wes Winters (Liberace) and Matt Lewis (Elvis) re-created the shot at the Liberace Museum. The original photo was taken at the Riviera on Nov. 14, 1956, which makes the decision to put Lewis in an early 1970s Elvis jumpsuit for the re-created photo a bit odd ...
