FLASHPOINT for Nov 07, 2006

How things can change in politics from cycle to cycle. Two years ago, Jim Gibbons was a heavy favorite to be the next governor and few took Dina Titus' candidacy seriously. Today Titus has a chance to make history because of her own relentlessness and Gibbons' fecklessness. Imagine the what-might-have-been conversations occurring this morning in kitchens across the valley. Speaker Richard Perkins is wondering how much he would defeat Gibbons by if he were the nominee. State Sen. Bob Beers is musing about what he could have done with another million bucks. We may be up very late tonight, folks, and someone surely will be drowning sorrows or sipping champagne at McCormick & Schmick's.
