Letter: Bush one who owes apology, not Kerry

Friday, Nov. 3, 2006 | 7:22 a.m.

As a former U.S. Marine, I know that no one can denigrate the service, dedication and ability that I and others like me have provided our nation throughout the years. Therefore it is nothing less than a shameful political ploy to suggest that Sen. John Kerry was critical of U.S. troops in this latest flap over the senator's remarks regarding Iraq. Let us not forget that while George Bush was safely ensconced in the Texas Air Guard - in Alabama no less - Kerry was slogging it out in Vietnam.

With the number of U.S. killed fast approaching 3,000, thousands wounded, and countless Iraqis dead or dying, it is President Bush who owes not only the troops, but also every American who has been touched by this criminally misguided war, an apology. What neocon can tell us - with a straight face - what the attainable objectives are in the abject turmoil that is Iraq today? My guess would be few, if any.
