FLASHPOINT for May 28, 2006

Once again, we come down to the difference between a forum and a debate. We've had plenty of the former in the governor's race but few of the latter. This is so endemic to the political process and so frustrating to anyone who would like to see candidates actually interact, show their mental agility and produce substance. Reports from a gubernatorial forum last week produced the usual stuff - Rep. Jim Gibbons was a no-show and the others gave stump speeches and illuminated little. The only reasonable way for voters to make a choice is a series of real debates, with a to and fro on issues and a free-flowing format. I know where to find one, and these folks should come face to face three times before the primary.
