Letter: Please just keep your smoke to yourself
Saturday, May 27, 2006 | 7:39 a.m.
I went to a free concert the previous weekend on Fremont Street. The concert was hosted by some wonderful radio stations.
I must say that my daughter and I had a wonderful time. We thank everyone who hosted this wonderful event. The entertainers were awesome and it was a grand time.
My complaint? Inconsiderate smokers. We were crammed in the middle of the crowd, dancing, singing and having a great time. Then someone lights up a cigarette and then they are dancing with the cigarette flying around in their hands and everyone else is dodging the cigarette, hoping they don't get burned or hoping that the cigarette smoke doesn't get in their eyes.
I saw many parents lighting up their cigarettes with their children standing there breathing in their secondhand smoke. I watched the smoke go right into their children's lungs. We had to move around a couple of times because my daughter is pregnant and can't be around the smoke. There wasn't much of a breeze, so the smoke just kind of sat there.
I believe if you want to smoke and destroy your lungs that is your business. But the rest of us would like to live smoke-free lives. Think of the children in the world who don't have the choice of moving while you light up your cigarette. This is just one reason I believe in a smoke-free environment. (I'll stop now because I could type a book.)
If you want information about how to quit, go online. There is so much information out there.
Thanks again, Las Vegas, for a great concert. You rock!
