Letter: Most snowbirds can afford garbage fees
Friday, May 19, 2006 | 7:23 a.m.
Can't we just put an end to this "major" controversy about collecting garbage service fees from seasonal residents when they are not occupying their properties? A letter in the Sun on Thursday suggested these poor snowbird senior citizens on fixed incomes were hard pressed to afford the $12 or so monthly fees imposed on them.
It seems to me that people who can afford a second home are not living on the edge of poverty, and if their incomes are fixed they must be fixed at a pretty generous level. We are all better served by trash pickup crews' attention to their job, which is to pickup trash at curbside, not to decipher the migratory habits of Social Security recipients.
