So I had a chance last week to interview Phil Ruffin, the brains behind the renovation of The New Frontier. Ruffin has oscillated from a San Francisco theme to a Montreux theme, which he says will include a replica of the London Eye. I can tell you from recent, first-hand experience that the Eye, a gigantic, slow-moving observation wheel, is spectacular. I hope Ruffin can get it done, although he won't set a timetable and can't let the employees know when they will be laid off. When I asked him if, with all the delays, he is for real, he replied that he wasn't just a rich guy who wanted to sit on the beach. No, I guess that man's name is Peter Morton, who just got $770 million for the Hard Rock.
