FLASHPOINT for May 12, 2006

So you would think that with all the disgust being hurled at the president and the national GOP and with that supposed campaign to switch Republicans to Democrats to help conservative Jim Gibson's gubernatorial chances, party-switching must be at an all-time high in Clark County. Not so. Not even close. I have been tracking this for months and nothing is happening. Or a reasonable facsimile of nothing. Last month only 166 Republicans switched to the Democratic Party, according to the county election numbers. And there were 107 voters who switched the other way. I have no doubt that many Republicans will stay home or vote Democratic in protest in November. But that won't help Gibson in August.
