Letter: U.S. has self-righteous, delusional attitude
Tuesday, May 9, 2006 | 7:33 a.m.
Webster's dictionary defines hypocrisy as "the false assumption of an appearance of virtue ..." MSN Encarta dictionary defines a hypocrite as "somebody who pretends to have admirable principles, beliefs or feelings but behaves otherwise." It thoroughly amazes me at the depth of the hypocrisy in this country.
This country was founded by invaders who just took over everything in sight. They made no attempt to fit in to the nation that they invaded. They did not learn the language. They simply killed anyone who got in their way.
This country still has the most self-righteous, delusional attitude in history. It is OK for the USA to ignore any and all international laws that it wants to, yet condemn and penalize anyone else who does the same thing. We can invade countries and kill thousands on a trumped-up excuse just because we don't like them.
Yet when a group of hard-working, peaceful people want to come to this country (which we stole from them in the first place - by the trumped-up Mexican-American War) we scream "foul." These are people we should be pleased to have as fellow countrymen.
If the United States is going to keep butting into places that it has no right to be, why don't we do something about the corrupt, vile conditions in the country to the south of us? Then the people would not have a reason to leave.
