Letter: Much time needed to heal from Bushitis
Monday, May 8, 2006 | 7:25 a.m.
The Las Vegas Sun's May 3 editorial, entitled "Imperial presidency is alive - Bush, in signing bills, thwarts will of Congress with a little-known practice," highlights just one more symptom of a disease that might be call "Bushitis."
The United States will suffer for generations from the aftermath of this plague Bush has spawned. The worldwide respect the United States has enjoyed since World War II has now taken on the image of the scourge of the planet. All this since Bush invaded Iraq in what many believe is an unwarranted invasion and probably an illegal war. Bush seems to think he is a messenger of God who wanted to go down in history as a great president. History, however, will undoubtedly put him at the other end of the spectrum among those who have led our nation.
The Bush legacy includes a national debt of such gigantic proportions that it will be an economic burden on the nation for generations. He has pillaged the environment by bending to the will of Big Business' desire to squeeze the penny of profit as we see the planet well on its way to becoming a wasteland.
Without a blink of an eye he continues to trample on the civil rights of every man woman and child. These are only a few of the legacies that he will leave when he is forced to vacate the Oval Office after the 2008 election. With some luck and an informed electorate, a Democratic-controlled Congress can limit the damage he might inflict on the nation over his last two years in office.
