Letter: U.S. military caught up in sophomoric games
Sunday, May 7, 2006 | 9:07 a.m.
A U.S. military press conference on Thursday proves that if anyone doubts we are making progress in the Iraq war, the latest Al-Zarqawi scoop should silence those doubts.
All the bad news about the war, the daily bombings, the rising American death toll, and the Bush administration's complete ineptitude, have all been dwarfed by the Army's latest victory against Iraq's number one terrorist.
The U.S. military command proudly held a press conference to announce that it had "captured" a video with "outtakes'' showing Al-Zarqawi fumbling with the mechanism of a light machine gun. The Army went out of its way to show the world Al-Zarqawi at his goofy best.
This blooper reel has really put a dent in the insurgency. If we could just find an outtake of Al-Zarqawi getting tipped over in a port-a-potty, final victory in Iraq will be assured.
