Letter: Remember the Alamo, indeed
Sunday, May 7, 2006 | 9:07 a.m.
They come into this country illegally, as if it belongs to them. They use up all the resources and are a burden to society. Not just one or two come, but thousands of them, and then they even send for their families later on.
They take away from this country by sending this country's wealth back to their country. They bring their own language and culture, not even bothering to learn the native one. Not only that, but they also want things done in their language.
They refuse even to assimilate and then they demand rights and get angry when they are called invaders or there are reprisals. I say send them all back where they came from. Now, I'm not talking about Hispanics, who are mestizos, but about the Europeans who invaded the joint North and South American continent. Maybe there is such a thing as karma.
America tends to quickly forget its history, like when Texas was still Tejas. Mexico invited Americans in on the condition that they became Mexican citizens, rejected slavery and respected Mexican laws. So what happened? They brought in slaves and racism, tried to kill the Tejan founder and governor, finally forcing him to flee, and took the land for themselves. When Mexico retaliated, the Alamo became a war cry, the fighters martyrs and Texas a slave state.
Americans valiantly try to extend the rights that U.S. citizens enjoy across the world, yet they want to refuse those rights to those living within their own borders. I am proud to be an American, yet sometimes I have to smile at how naive some people are.
