CCSN's Johnson, Heyer feel the weight lifted
So when CCSN (13-43, 11-29 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference) clinched a spot in the league playoffs by sweeping a four-game series at Colorado Northwestern last weekend, nobody felt better than Johnson and Heyer.
Letter: Failure to secure nation is real felony
As I see it, this is a reactionary, idiotic idea intended to appease the "ignorant masses of the constituency" - the American people. The only things this could possibly accomplish would be the saddling of our already overburdened states with responsibility for enforcing the law and the costs of adjudicating individual cases. In the absence of a federal organization vigorously enforcing a clearly defined policy, it can't be otherwise.
Rogers adds own incentive for president
Regents on Friday approved a $400,000 contract for incoming UNR President Milton Glick, a full $80,000 more than his predecessor received. It is highly likely that UNLV's president can expect the same.
Editorial: Let's hear straight talk
There is growing concern about the impact from the blast, which is believed to be the largest open-air chemical explosion ever to be conducted at the Test Site, the home to atomic tests until 1992. Information from the Pentagon has been erratic.
Editorial: Soda gets failing grade
Specifically, the soft-drink companies will remove soda, diet soda, sports drinks and apple and grape juice from elementary and middle schools. Water and healthier juices such as orange juice still would be sold in smaller containers. Although sodas with sugar will not be sold to high schools, the soft-drink companies will continue to supply high schools - at least to those that will allow it - with diet soda, diet lemonade and diet iced tea.
Editorial: Emphatic guilty verdicts
The conventional wisdom during the trial was that the youthful Herrera had a tougher hill to climb because he wasn't a sympathetic figure. Galardi testified that Herrera not only had received bribes in the form of cash but that he had also received sexual favors from Galardi's employees - including oral sex during a golf outing. In contrast, Kincaid-Chauncey has long been seen as a grandmotherly figure in political circles, someone who was trustworthy.
Pharmacy asked to withhold judgment
CARSON CITY - Nevada pharmacists are on notice: They will be disciplined if they refuse to fill a prescription for birth control pills because of religious or moral beliefs.
Letter: Employers at heart of immigration problem
Most who sympathize with illegals sound like they are out of touch with the reality of what has been allowed to take place in our country. Maybe they are just mouthing the legislation the president has proposed involving guest workers, amnesty, etc.
Letter: Government turns its back on Mother Nature
The president, our crawdad daddy from Crawford, has been quietly selling out Alaska to oil interests for so long now it's getting hot up there. In ANWR, animals rule, and there aren't many places like that left. It's called Nature. My fellow Americans remember this fact: We are all environmentalists, responsible and accountable to our children and future generations to not mess up our planet. Which by the way, isn't going too well!
