Letter: Illegal immigration creates hard feelings
Thursday, March 30, 2006 | 6:35 a.m.
There are millions and millions of illegal immigrants in the United States. This is an out-of-control situation that I believe could result in financial, social and security difficulties for our country for many years to come.
Who, primarily, is at fault here? (That tells us who can fix it!)
I am angry at the people themselves for illegally crossing our borders, and upset that so many seem to just want to earn as much as possible, take the money and run back to Mexico, as opposed to really embracing America. That is hard on our financial system. But maybe I would do the same thing in their place.
I am angry at Big Business. The millions of illegal immigrants form a perfect, cheap labor pool for Big Business. Big Business tries to tell us that illegal immigrants are doing the jobs Americans don't want to do. Not so. Illegal immigrants are doing the jobs that Big Business is not willing, in the name of profits, to pay an American citizen a decent wage to perform. I am angry at the greed, but that is to be expected of Big Business.
But is it also to be expected that our legislators and presidential administration sell out to Big Business? Maybe I'm crazy, and that is not the case. If so, then what is? Why hasn't enforcement been put in place, and this insanity stopped?
So ... I am the most angry of all at our lawmakers for allowing this to happen. I am angry at them for enacting weak, meaningless border legislation that leaves all Americans vulnerable in so many ways.
