The middle-aged man had a pained expression.

Immigration a touchy subject
Republican candidates for governor all talked tough on illegal immigration Monday, wading into an issue that is rapidly becoming perilous for their party - especially in Nevada and other Western states with burgeoning Hispanic populations.
TAKE FIVE: World Tea Expo
Displayed amid a sea of tea leaves, tea puddings, tea soaps and tea steepers at the World Tea Expo, which opened Monday, are some of the hottest new accoutrements and products.

DULY NOTED
Top 10 ways to misidentify George Mason, the team that has busted everybody's NCAA bracket. Note: ESPN analyst Digger Phelps is only responsible for the first two:
Letter: Forget about Bush getting impeached
If the Democrats had one single shred of incontrovertible evidence that he had committed an impeachable offense, they would have called for proceedings long ago.
Letter: Children benefit from being bilingual
I agree that people who come to live in this country should learn to speak English. However, I am shocked that Mr. Garner professes to be "multilingual" and yet cannot see the benefits that a dual immersion program provides for both sets of students. Perhaps both men need to do their research and actually learn about dual immersion before sharing their negative opinions and "English-only" stances.

He'll be back this week and is scheduled to make an appearance at the Construction Specifications Institute's 50th Annual Show and Convention.
Perfect practice for the Masters
Although his success at Sugarloaf is one of the reasons he is playing the week before the Masters, it isn't the primary reason.
Editorial: Katrina contracts a riddle
The agency countered that in the early stages of a disaster no-bid contracts are standard and acceptable because of the urgency involved. Criticism continued, however, particularly against four large corporations that have a history of winning federal contracts.
Editorial: Test of freedom in Afghanistan
U.S. and U.N. officials said Monday that Rahman - whose imprisonment stirred protests from Western democracies - will be freed. Nonetheless, it is an ominous sign that religious zealotry still has such a grip on Afghanistan. Muslim clerics have vowed to hunt Rahman down and kill him if he is freed.
Letter: Blue Diamond Road should open some eyes
The prevailing political attitude of the valley is the libertarian/conservative concept of small government. Yet, at present there is an enormous outcry because the valley is being denied the benefits of big government. If you think I'm off my rocker, just consider the outrage over what is happening with State Route 160 (Blue Diamond Road).
Editorial: Remembering George Mason
But how about George Mason himself? It is time publicity came his way, too.
