Recipients of Carnegie Hero medals

The 20 people who were named Carnegie Heroes by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission:
-Leslie Joseph Staniowski, 51, of North Las Vegas, Nev., who died April 1, 2004, while saving Kensen Lee, 45, from a gunman who opened fire at a Las Vegas bar.
-Peter J. Pelletier Sr., 38, of Lee, Maine, saved a woman who had set her home on fire in a suicide attempt. Pelletier was hoisted by another man into the woman's home where he took her out through a window. Pelletier was not injured.
-Charles D. Bell, 46, of Greenup, Ill., rescued Jimmy S. Derixson from a burning pickup truck on Jan. 3, 2004. Bell was not injured.
-Lawrence R. Eaddy Jr., 37, of Sicklerville, N.J., saved 2-month-old Justin L.H. Phillips from burning on Feb. 14, 2005. Eaddy, a postal supervisor, was a passenger in a car when he saw a burning home, got out and found the baby on a couch. Both survived.
-Wesley E. DeVane, 40, and Johnny P. Senn, 39, of Elba, Alabama, rescued Justin A. Wilks from burning in Spring Hill, Ala., on Nov. 12, 2004. Wilks had been trapped in the driver's seat of a pickup truck when the men got him out. All three survived.
-Kenneth A. McIntosh, 46, of Pierceton, Ind., rescued Pamela M. Walls from burning on Sept. 15, 2004. Walls was asleep in her room when her house caught fire. McIntosh saw the smoke and ran in to look for occupants when he found Walls asleep. Both survived.
-Timothy J. Paquette, 34, of Auburn, Mass., saved Thomas E. Bramich Jr. and Andrew Felsing from the wreckage of a single-engine airplane that crashed on May 27, 2004, in Fitchburg, Mass.
-Edsel G. Lorenze, 75, of Radcliffe, Iowa, saved Ryan A. Reisinger from his burning car on Feb. 23, 2005.
-Gerald Ribeiro, 33, and Keith Camp, 42, of New Bedford, Mass., rescued Raymond A. Pittsley from his burning dump truck after an accident on Aug. 16, 2004.
-Curtis L. Brewer, 42, of Wakefield, Va., saved Leonard M. Gray Sr. from burning when his one-story home caught fire on Dec. 21, 2004.
-Patricia A. Rupert, 43, of Grand Rapids, Ohio, rescued Jillian Badenhop from burning in her sport utility vehicle after a tractor-trailer pushed it off a highway.
-Terry W. Thacker, 47, of Trafford Alabama, rescued James D. White and saved Virginia C. White from burning after their car collided with a pickup truck on Jan. 21, 2005.
-Robert W. Aigeldinger, 34, of Mountain Top, Pa., and John William Oplinger, of Wapwallopen, Pa., rescued Frank T. Tencza from burning when the 15-year-old was trapped in a pickup truck after an accident on Feb. 27, 2004.
-Michael Mauldin, 43, of Charlotte, N.C., saved 8-year-old Brian Beaman was drowning in Atlantic Beach, N.C., on July 15, 2003. Brian was carried out into the Atlantic Ocean and his father couldn't reach him. Mauldin swam to Brian and was able to pull him back to shore, despite the heavy undertow.
-Peter J. Varsalona, 56, of Bayonne, N.J., helped to save Usman Chaudhry from burning in Kearny, N.J., on March 26, 2005. The 18-year-old Chaudhry was in a car accident and his car burst into flames before Varsalona could help him to safety. They both survived.
-Nicolas E. Barrelet, 39, of Harrisburg, Pa., and Randy A. Nolen, of New Cumberland, Pa., rescued Juancio Irizarry from a burning rowhouse on Jan. 28, 2005.
