Letter: Paying the price for prescription plan
Thursday, March 23, 2006 | 7:22 a.m.
These are my comments on our new drug program that the Bush administration so "generously" has given to the senior set of the nation: My husband warned me that I should not enroll, but I did anyway, and here are the results of my first experience with the drug plan.
I had the prescriptions filled and to my shock the price was higher than I have ever paid before.
So I contacted the prescription company, thinking there must be some mistake. After about 30 minutes on the phone of double talk (I should have had a lawyer do it), the prescription company's representative said the prescriptions indeed had increased.
The prescription company could not explain why, after I have had these prescriptions filled previously on a regular basis, that it was suddenly now at a higher price. The person on the phone said he was only working for the company and did not make pricing policies.
Of course, I cannot drop the plan, as they very conveniently take it out of my Social Security check, so I will have to pay all year - at which point I will cancel my plan.
So any of you out there, if you have not already done so, think carefully about what you sign up for. Be sure to get your expert lawyer to interpret everything.
