FLASHPOINT for Mar 20, 2006

Monday, March 20, 2006 | 7:12 a.m.

It's better to be lucky than good, as Nevada Democrats are discovering. These things can ebb and flow quickly. But the Democrats have to believe that compared to six months ago, their chances of slicing into the GOP constitutional office monopoly have dramatically increased. The president's plummeting poll numbers. The lack of genuine affection for Rep. Jim Gibbons. The withdrawal of Attorney General George Chanos from the fray. A guy with lots of money (Bob Unger) in the lieutenant governor's race. A GOP primary in the treasurer's race. An ex-governor's son - Ross Miller - lapping the field in the secretary of state's race. What more can they ask for? Perhaps, rural Nevada being wiped off the map?
