Letter: An all-too-common tale of divorce

We have a 52 percent divorce rate in this country. Most adults take more time choosing an automobile than they do choosing a marriage mate.
Years ago I worked at an electronics company on the East Coast. In my division was a young couple about to get married. To all outward appearances they looked madly in love.
On one Friday I was walking with the future bride on my way to lunch. I asked her: You must be real excited about getting married to him this Saturday. Her reply to me: Oh, he's alright until something better comes along. I was glad I wasn't invited to their wedding. I would have had to have been in the raptures of alcohol to witness that disaster.
A few years later my only daughter came through my door with Mr. Right. I knew he was Mr. Wrong right from the get-go. I told my wife a few days before the wedding: Dear, our daughter will be divorced within a year. Her reply was: I'm sick of your negative attitude.
I was wrong, my daughter got divorced after two years of marriage, about the same time my wallet had a total meltdown.
You 52 percent who are divorced should stay single - and don't bet on the horses, you can't even bring in a human winner.
