Letter: Growing debt unfair to America’s children

As a taxpayer and as a father, I am upset that President Bush's newly issued budget calls for spending $2.77 trillion in a single year while increasing the national debt by $423 billion.

The admitted national debt already stands at $8.2 trillion, and this huge figure doesn't even include unfunded promises into the future that will cost at least another $10 trillion.

The Department of Education has implemented a program entitled "No Child Left Behind." I think that this nice-sounding slogan ought to be applied to the monstrous debt of our national government.

The horrifying fact is that my little daughter and her future children will have to shoulder this incredible burden.

My daughter will not have a single word to say about the debt she will inherit. But she will pay for it with her labors, or perhaps even with her freedom.
